Everything Avora knows about the Leghorn · White.
- Temperament
- High-strung, alert, flighty. Excellent free-rangers and predator-aware. Not a lap chicken — keep them busy and they thrive.
- Production
- ~300 large white eggs per year. Best feed-to-egg conversion ratio of any heritage breed. Lays from 18 weeks and stays productive through age three.
- Climate Fit
- Heat-tolerant; the lean Mediterranean frame and large single comb dissipate heat well. Less cold-hardy — the tall comb is frostbite-prone below 0°F unless petroleum-jellied or coop is heated.
- Brooder Notes
- Brood at 95°F for week one. Active from day one — provide perches by week two. They will outgrow brooder space faster than dual-purpose breeds.
- Best For
- Egg-focused keepers, warmer climates, anyone optimizing yield per dollar of feed.
